Financial Intelligence

Yesterday we had our first network seminar and it revolved around financial intelligence. Ken Annandale was our keynote speaker and his message was very insightful. Not only did it show what 90% of us are doing wrong, but also the little nuances that tend to creep into our lives and we dismiss them as part of life.

One area of interest was his talk regarding the book, “The E-Myth – Michael Gerber.” This really opened my eyes to my financial failure. In his talk, Ken asked a very important question that Michael Gerber uses as his opening line in the book. The question is: “What is your Sell by date?” Strange question, right? But relevant don’t you think.

For those that don’t know what is meant by the question, the idea is to think about why do we work or run a business and by when to you want it done. The sale by date is an easy question. By when do you want to be financially free? Do you have it written down? Is it cast in stone? If not, what are you doing about it and why are you putting an effort into something that never gets done.

Don't leave your income out to dry

Makes you think about your job and/or career. I am in sales as a job, but every time a sale is done, the entire cycle starts again. And if I don’t sell I don’t get paid. Most will say that this is part of life. Well I can tell you that is a load of bull. There are opportunities out there where you put an effort in now and when it is build, you are paid for the rest of your life and the lives of your kids. Would this not make sense?

Now many of you might say that there isn’t business like that. This is where you are wrong. There are many, for example: Retail chain stores, food outlets like McDonalds, Network Marketing businesses and anything were you are paid every month based on rental, lease, penalties and so on. The problem is, many of these opportunities are very expensive and the ones that are not is seen as below class. Well I am here to tell you that your ego does not bring income, in fact, Ken said something very true, “Ignorance is failure”. Ignorance is not bliss, but the start of your downfall to financial ruins.
